Classes and Education

Company Classes
June 3 through August 5, 2010 in Tremont
Tuesdays & Thursdays, 6:00 - 7:30 pm

Antaeus Dance’s company classes are open to the public and offer instruction in modern dance technique for intermediate to advanced movers. Classes are held in the company’s third floor studio in Pilgrim Congregational Church. Free parking is available in the church lot on West 14th Street.

Classes are taught by Artistic/Executive Director, Joan Meggitt.

Meggitt’s training has been devoted to the modern dance technique of Erick Hawkins, which she has studied under numerous company members, most notably Kelly Holt, James Reedy, Cynthia Reynolds, and Gloria McLean. The modern dance technique of Erick Hawkins integrates strength and vulnerability, cultivates grounded elegance, and embraces dynamic subtlety. Classes utilize Hawkins’ principles, including his innovative relationship to time, through athletic phrases that develop out of concise floor and center work. Meggitt characterizes the practice as “living out loud by dancing from within!”

General: $10 per class
